VPDES Permit Regulation for Nonmetallic Mining Periodic Review Complete

The Virginia State Water Control Board and the Department of Environmental Quality have completed the periodic review of 9VAC25-190. Virginia Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (VPDES) General Permit Regulation for Nonmetallic Mineral Mining regulation. The updated regulation will go into effect on July 1, 2024.

The periodic review and amendments are minimal and mostly are language clean up. The two most significant changes are DEQ will now require electronic filing and a relief mechanism to dewater flooded pits that are out of service due to significant storm events.
