Event Details
One of the major issues facing Virginia’s transportation construction industry is attracting and developing talent for our workforce. To address our workforce issues, VTCA convened a Workforce Development Taskforce. This group is comprised of members representing all VTCA membership groups. The Taskforce has identified a potential opportunity through Virginia’s public schools’ system.
Many of the public-school systems in Virginia conduct High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs. These programs offer high school students’ opportunities to combine on-the-job training with their high school curriculum. High-Quality Work-Based Learning comprises experiences related to students’ career interests based on instructional preparation and take place in partnership with local businesses or organizations. HQWBL enables students to apply classroom instruction in a real-world work environment.
The VTCA Workforce DevelopmentTaskforce will be conducting a meeting on January 10th in Roanoke to connect VTCA Members with the representatives from the Roanoke/Lynchburg regions High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs. The High-Quality Work-Based Learning representatives will provide testimonials to the success of the program and how your firms can become involved in High-Quality Work-Based Learning.
This will be a unique opportunity for your firm to learn how you can become involved in High-Quality Work-Based Learning programs, exposing young individuals to your organizations and provide training opportunities for students.
