Permatile Concrete: Quality, Durability and Customer Service

Permatile Concrete’s involvement with VTCA dates to 1967, just a few years after the company was founded in Bristol, Virginia. From its modest beginnings in a single building, Permatile has evolved into a regional concrete pipe and precast company known for its quality workmanship, innovative product lines and focus on superior customer service.  Permatile’s facility now spans more than 100,000 square feet of production space, with crane capacities of up to 50 tons and year-round production capacity, all backed by a fleet of trucks to ensure timely delivery.

Permatile’s product line includes concrete pipe and related infrastructure products, box culvert, tunnels, wall systems, vaults, manholes and a suit of signature products that mark Permatile as a true innovator in the precast concrete industry.  Over the years the company has diversified into several unique product lines including Evergreen retaining and sound walls, Cable Concrete erosion control mats, Hy-Span precast bridges, as well as numerous custom-engineered products and has provided solutions for many engineering challenges including deep fills and unique precast applications.

These include many high-profile projects that showcase Permatile’s in-house engineering design capabilities, such as:

• A tunnel system and stairway landings at the Bristol Motor Speedway.
• A system of Hy-Span bridges and curbs installed in just five hours for Boxley Materials.
• An Evergreen Wall plantable retaining wall system along the Cumberland Gap Parkway.
• An Evergreen Soundwall to block chiller and generator noise at the Abingdon Small Business Incubator.

In addition to its longtime support of VTCA, the Precast Concrete Association of Virginia and other state and regional trade groups, Permatile has a long history with national associations. Founder Charles Rainero is considered one of the precast industry’s early leaders by the National Precast Concrete Association, serving in many leadership roles for NPCA, including 1987 President. The second generation has continued the family’s ethic of service to the industry. Mimi Rainero Coles served as NPCA Chairman of the Board in 2013 and PCAV President 2022-2024. Mitch Rainero represents Permatile on the NPCA Executive Committee and John Rainero serves on the American Concrete Pipe Association Executive Committee as treasurer.

Now in its 60th year of family ownership, Permatile Concrete Products Company has proven as durable as the products it manufactures. Permatile prides itself on the industry relationships its team has built in 60 years, its many long-term employees, including some with more than 40 years at the company, and the quality products and service it supplies. The hands-on leadership that built Permatile’s reputation in 1964 continues to this day, as stated on the company’s website: “Demand the best ... Demand Permatile Precast!”
