Associate Spotlight: Carter Machinery Company, Inc.

Member and Industry News,

My name is Drew Dickinson and I am honored to represent Carter Machinery Company, Inc. for the VTCA Associate Leadership Committee.  Carter Machinery is the Licensed Caterpillar Equipment Dealer for the Virginia, DC, Maryland, and Delaware Territory (to include several counties in Southeastern West Virginia), and our company history traces back all the way 1927, but while we are proud of our past, it is our present and our future that we are most focused on today.

Most folks know our company from the iconic Black and Yellow construction equipment that we sell and support, but there is so much more to Carter Machinery here in 2024 as our Team continues an intense focus on GrowthTechnology, and our continuing Mission to help our customer Achieve Their Highest Levels of Success!

Growth.  It defines our Commonwealth and our Industry, and Carter Machinery is committed to a coverage strategy that ensures that we will have the resources our customers need to build the Virgina of tomorrow.  Our footprint expanded from our traditional Virginia territory in 2020 with the acquisition of Alban Tractor and our new territory allows us to service customers; from the coalfields of Southwest Viriginia, to the Tidewater and Hampton Roads market, all the way to the data capital beltway of Northern Virginia and DC, to the Ports of Baltimore.  Our focus on Coverage and Growth has been central to our vision.  Seeing the growth in demand for Power Generation, we have added over 100 Electronic Power Generation technicians to our Northern Virginia market alone over the past 12 months.  Our Rental market continues to be a growth business opportunity and need for our customers, so we have expanded rapidly to meet demand with 6 new Carter Rental locations opening in 2024 and another 7 scheduled to open in 2025.  Our goal remains to be where our customers need us, now and in the future.

Technology.  Innovation continues to drive the Transportation market and Carter Machinery is committed to being the partner that our customers need to push the envelope of what is possible on today’s jobsite.  Notice anything missing in the machine pictured below?  That’s right, the operator is located in a remote location to enhance jobsite safety.  Need analytics to drive actionable insight on equipment productivity, fuel burn, and load capacity?  Jobsite mapping and  productivity monitoring are all services currently available and helping customers to maximize their production while minimizing waste and expense.  Carter Machinery has even entered the 0 Emissions market with our Etheros Truck and Energy Division that was created in 2022 that sells a line of Battery Electric Vehicles that includes on-highway (Nikola), terminal tractors (Lonestar-SV), and medium duty trucks and vans (Harbinger).  Exciting news recently with our 1st Hydrogen Fueled On-Highway prototype just hitting the yard.  We are excited to be able to provide the technology of tomorrow to our customers today.

Mission.  Carter Machinery has always been more than just an equipment dealership, since our founding our mission has revolved around partnering with our vendors and our customers to provide the equipment, service, parts, and support that drive success in our territory.  Our team, which is now 3,000 strong, is dedicated to being the resource that this industry needs to achieve the tomorrow that our industry envisions.  We are proud to be a part of the VTCA and all who support the mission of driving our Commonwealth forward.  Let’s Get to Work!
