VTCA Transportation Engineering Award Winners
A substantial increase in design-build entries this year inspired the VTCA panel of judges to recognize multiple subcategories in both the design-bid-build (DBB) and design-build (DB) categories. In fact, the normal assortment of high-quality entries was characterized by an unusually high proportion of D-B projects – more than half – a trend that is likely to persist in the foreseeable future. Also predictable was a trend towards higher-value projects with twice as many “Greater than $10 million” entries as those valued “Less than $10 million”. Locally-administered projects (i.e., non-VDOT) were well-represented again this year with most entries of the DB variety. Award winners were recognized during the early afternoon session at VTCA’s Consultant Forum on September 5.
